Greewald's book is a standard with sailors. As an american discovering non-american cooking, Greenwald progresses towards cooking with food items as they are naturally (rather than, for instance, preparing a "sauce" made from store-bought mayonnaise mixed with sour cream and then heated ---- yeach.)His pantry advices are very good, and realistic,You can take his word about what you need and the quantities. The way he deals with edible creatures all over the planet is also interesting and will truly help any new sailor.However, I must say that it is his story-telling we all find the most compelling. We have spent evenings in the cockpit reading his stories: about the huge marine creatures, the sailor with a large appetite, the story of how they helped the people in Gibraltar.... Thank you very much Micheal for sharing them with us.Greenwalds book is the best i have ever read in order to prepare for blue-water sailing. Further, it is very thorough, very clear, and a lot of fun. If you sail this book wshould stand besde the Reeds.All the best

I am an experienced chef on boats and therefor I have a good insight on do's and don'ts.From the first few pages of this book you can tell how well it is written.Lots of excellent information and recipies.I recomand this book for novices and experts.Worth buying, should be in every boat's library.

Bought this as a gift and finally had a chance to read through it on a visit to the recipient. A lot of really interesting cooking advice: Some odd but perhaps handy information on slaughtering your own animals if you find yourself in a country where the meat does not come in plastic wrapped trays and advice on how to use a pressure cooker onboard. The book is compact so it is a useful add to your onboard library.

I have fed the whole crew of 13 all the way across Atlantic in 2014 based on this book! The captain is still relating the crossing as the most tasty...Another excellent book on the same topic is "The Boat Galley Cookbook"

Great book, must on boat or camp

Have not tried any receipes yet...but reading it was fun and a flashback of expeirances I myself have had in the galley. Would love to meet the author sometime. A great gift for any sailor...Especially those who cook on "sailboats".

The best of the breed... not only does Michael provide useful recipes galore, but also an excellent depth of conceptual information (which is what leads to galley competence). In my weight-sensitive boat, this is one of the very few books that is a permanent fixture in the on-board library.Highly recommended!

I bought this because friends were using it on their boat. Very good book.
